AMAG PT 07 NUNO MELO SOUSA
As a vehicle for publicising some of the architecture produced in Portugal, AMAG is still one of the few means of disseminating works and authors that are still little known. One of the characteristics of many of these offices, which are generally small in size, is that many of them are located outside the main centres, but maintain an activity that extends far beyond their region, often even with work abroad.
Following a European trend, this is a recent change from what characterised the distribution of architects in Portugal for many years, almost limited to the major urban centres. This is a reflection of multiple factors, both internal (to the country and the profession) and external, all of which, in their multiple diversity, are fundamental to improving the quality of the built environment that we all want and need.
This is once again what we see in this issue, which is entirely dedicated to the work of Nuno Melo Sousa, whose office is in Penafiel but whose teaching activity is spread between Europe and the East. The various projects he has already built are spread across the country and Brazil, as well as his participation and selection for the short list of finalists in the competition to build a church for Norway.
